London based pop-rock outfit T-10 (T-minus 10) played their first headliner show at 229 The Venue last week. Even though they formed only in early 2018, they have managed to build up a strong fan base across social media platforms and around Europe; in fact, tonight there are couple of girls that travelled all the way from Austria and France just to see them play!
They spent the end of last year hard working in the studio, writing, recording and practicing songs old and new. Latest single Back For (Even) More came out mid-February. and they also released a very funny and colourful music video for it – it’s a banging tune.
As soon as they hit the stage, there was an explosion of energy and everyone was ready to dance. Lead singer Jamie Skinner has great ability to involve the crowd, with plenty of jokes for good measure. The highlight of their set is when they cover Jonas Brothers’ latest single Sucker, giving it a little T-10 twist.
Support on the night was strong too, including South London pop-punk outfit TM69. They are seemingly on a mission to restore pop punk back to its glory days. These guys came busting on the scene in early 2018 and recorded their debut EP Ignite. They are in their element when on stage, playing fast fun music to jump around to, involving everyone in the room. On this evidence, pop-punk is certainly not dead, at least not when TM69 are around!
Quick change of scenery and we got rock-pop band from Brighton, RCKLSS. We’ve seen these guys once before around a year ago and it is so nice to see that since then, they’ve come on a long away. As we remembered, their music is still an explosion of energy and banging tunes. Formed in 2016, they spent their first year developing their own unique take on modern pop-punk. After releasing an EP under the name Reckless Intentions, the band toured around relentlessly through the following year, discovering themselves and the music they wanted to create.
Rounding off a bumper support programme was post-hardcore/pop-punk band from Brighton, Crownhouse. Their sound is inspired by early Paramore records and the like. They released their debut EP 3AM in mid-2017 and it has been hard-hitting about the struggles of dealing with teenage anxiety, heartbreak and depression; on the flip side, the end of it has a more positive feel to it. They have great energy on stage and a fresh sound that suggests the success they’ve had so far is only the befinning.
