Leeds-based trio Polo brought their sublime brand of chill-pop to London’s Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen last month and there was an upliftingly cool vibe throughout.

Led by the mesmerising vocals of Kat McHugh, there is a soulful, RnB-tinged flavour to much of their material, with a hatful of super-catchy riffs in there for good measure. Alongside McHugh, Luke Lount steers the tunes on synths while Dan Egdell brings the backbone on drums.

The band are reminiscent of a couple of other Sync favourites – a slightly more uptempo version of London-based Rumours, while they also share the knack for a great pop hook so ably demonstrated by Liverpool’s Haarm.

But above all else, their sound is their own, and their slick neo-soul tracks transfer exceptionally well to the live stage.

Support on the night came from the hugely accomplished Ralph Taylor, whose charm and natural on-stage persona reminded us of when we first caught sight of Sam Fender. He was followed by the livewire Nonô, a Brazilian firecracker with plenty of raw energy and sparkling attitude. All three on the bill are now firmly on our gig-going radar… and should be on yours too!
